One of Nigeria’s leading Afro-pop music sensations, Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley, has concluded plans to host a free online concert concurrently on Facebook and YouTube to mark the annual Marlian Day.

This year’s concert, organised by GidiFest and Marlian Music, and produced by Eclipse Live, will hold from 6:30 to 7:30pm on Saturday, May 30, 2020 amidst the Coronavirus-induced social distancing rules in the country.

According to the organisers, “Marlian Day celebrates our liberty and our resilience through the daily challenges we face in Nigeria and most recently during the COVID-19 crisis; most especially the heroic frontline workers making personal sacrifices daily on behalf of Nigeria and humanity.”

It will be recalled that online platforms, especially social media, have become a viable tool for artists to connect and engage with their fans.

Canadian rapper, Tory Lanez’s Live social distancing tour earlier in May and Andrea Bocelli’s ‘Music for Hope: Live from the Duomo’ in Milan, Italy witnessed huge online audience.

Same way, Naira Marley would also bring the live concert to his fans’ homes across the world from his base in Lagos this weekend.

“Set to make his Gidi Fest debut at the upcoming Gidi Culture Festival, Naira Marley shows an early indication of the festival’s London – Lagos connection and there is a natural synergy between his fans, Marlians and The Gidi Tribe.

“They are the new African generation who refuse to take no for an answer and are challenging the status quo to uplift themselves and push forward.

“His adaptability, controversial lyrics and autonomy has made him one of the most sought-after artists in Africa,” the organisers said.

The live concert will feature his hit tracks “Soapy”, “Tesumole”, Marlians anthem “Opotoyi” among others.

It would also feature other guest artistes including WurlD and Zlatan alongside other Marlian music artists, Zinolesky, Moh Bad and Cblvck.

The organisers urged music lovers to connect to the concert via Naira Marley’s YouTube channel and Gidi Fest’s Facebook page, adding that the public can catch a playback on the concert on Trace TV next week.
