Being a Pastor or Imam is not a calling, but a profession

I am not anti-religion. But, I worry about the intrusion of religion and the power it seems to have over many. Let me explain.

Must read

A colleague shared a message from a revered religious leader on child upbringing. It was a sensible message. But sense is also a function of perspective. What makes sense to me, might be nonsense to another.
I am not anti-religion. But, I worry about the intrusion of religion and the power it seems to have over many. Let me explain.
A Pastor or Imam is not actually a calling. “Ha!!! He does not understand the Holy Spirit or he is a baby Christian or whatever”. It is a profession.
Those that serve or work as Pastors or whatever title they choose are no supernatural beings. They are people that have decided to take that as a vocation. Full time or part-time. God does not compel anyone. Save your reference to Jönah, please. All are called.
They are men and women that are fallible. Wearing a collar or being anointed by another, does not make them geniuses in all things. It does not make them marriage experts, financial experts or medical experts. They are teachers of faith and religious principles.
I see many books written by these men and women purporting to teach what they never achieved before they became religious leaders. Most are a regurgitation of books by real experts sprayed with some religious quotes.
That is why despite the increase in religious places, poverty is on the increase. Poverty is not spiritual. Many things are not. Christ died for repentance and a place for us in Heaven. Islam teaches habits that allow a godly life. Both are not to turn you into millionaires.
Be careful that you consult those trained to tackle worldly issues. You still live in the world. Be wise to take your problems to those that have walked that path successfully.
These kinds of post agitate many. It’s like when I see people praying for Nigeria to win a football match. Aargh, nothing is impossible for God. That kind of thinking will not get you the World Cup or for my co Arsenal fans, the Premier League.
I am not dismissing prayer and faith.
