South Korean President Moon Jae In has called for a rapid resumption of talks with North Korea.

Both dialogue between his country and North Korea and between the US and North Korea must resume as soon as possible, Moon said Tuesday at the UN General Assembly in New York.

“When the two Koreas and the surrounding countries work together, peace will be established,” he said.

South Korea will always stand ready to meet North Korea in a “cooperative spirit,” Moon added, but North Korea must adapt to the changes of a new “era of community.”

There has been renewed tensions and radio silence between the two countries recently following North Korean missile tests.

A thaw in relations took place in 2018 and there were direct talks between the two Koreas but progress then suddenly stalled.

The US under Joe Biden has said it is ready to meet North Korean officials “anywhere, anytime.”
