German carmaker BMW delivered fewer cars to its customers in the first quarter of this year compared to a year ago, the firm revealed on Thursday.
Some 596,907 vehicles in total from the brands BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce were delivered, representing a decline of 6.2% compared to the same quarter last year, the group said.
The firm pointed out that 2021 was the best first quarter in the company’s history.
For the current year as a whole, BMW aims to achieve sales at the previous year’s level.
The Ukraine war and the impact of the coronavirus lockdowns in China were the main factors that had slowed business down, BMW said.
The decline was limited to the core brand, whose sales fell by 7.3%, while Mini deliveries were up by a minimal amount, and Rolls-Royce by a significant amount.
BMW more than doubled deliveries of all-electric vehicles, coming to 35,289 in the January-March period.
