I have been in Abuja for over two decades. I have seen elected officials come and go. Most politicians are only as good as their last elective post financially. There is no amount of money you keep that will not be depleted if there is no addition. So savings without a trickle will make you poor.
Not all of us can be entrepreneurs. Not all of us have the skills to manage funds. Not all of us will be contractors. But all of us can be investors. Many people are scared to invest. A very valid fear in a country like ours where inflation and other variables can make nonsense of your investment.
At years close to your retirement, you do not make heavy purchases. Or gamble. You need not impress people. You need to find fertile grounds for seeds. Learn to play stock. Learn about the money market. Learn to trade easily.
I usually tell friends that wish to learn business to open a tuck shop and visit daily. You will not become a millionaire but you learn how to add. You learn what profit is different from capital and you will naturally curtail your expenses.
It is salary that is easy to spend. Profit… nobody wey get sense dey spend profit or all of it, you reinvest profit until business grow.
But I have no seed… oh you do. You just do not know.
Tomorrow, we talk about seeds and fertile grounds. Funny with all our challenges, an economy like ours offers incredible RoIs.
