A major cultural and traditional exhibition was held for the first time at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi in Nasarawa State on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
The event tagged “Arewa Festival 2025” features display of various traditional northern cultural items, including traditional attire, perfumes, kilishi, foods, horse riding, drama performances and comedy shows, among other elements showcasing northern Nigerian culture. It was organized by Tripoint Academy.
Speaking to journalists at the event, the coordinator of Tripoint Academy, Hajiya Amina Aminu, stated that the two-day festival holding on Saturday and Sunday was designed to unite the people of Northern Nigeria and promote peace and love among them, while showcasing the region’s traditions and culture to the world.
She stated that indeed God has blessed Northern Nigeria land with talent, creativity, and industriousness; thus it’s necessary to showcase them to the world.
She also used the medium to appreciate organizations and institutions, both within and outside Nigeria, that have continued to support and collaborate towards the success of the event.
Hajiya Aminu further advised the people of Keffi local government area, its environs in Nasarawa state, and the country at large to patronize locally-made Nigerian cultural products, especially from the North, in order to promote and sustain northern Nigerian culture and traditions globally.
Speaking earlier at the opening ceremony of the festival, the Nasarawa state Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Hon. Tanko Ibrahim, who was represented by the director of Administration and Supply of the ministry, Hajiya Aisha Ahmed Al-Makura, emphasized the importance of the festival, describing it as historically significant.
He commended the organizers and assured them that the ministry and the state government will continue to support such cultural exhibitions to boost cultural activities in the state and the nation.
He condemned the attitude of some northerners who abandon their northern cultural values and embrace foreign ones, noting that such behaviour is inappropriate.
Other dignitaries who spoke at the event, including the Emir of Keffi, Alhaji Chindo Yamusa, commended the foresight of Tripoint Academy and prayed for the success of the event. They also called on the general public, especially the northerners to come and witness the rich cultural heritage on display for the two days at very affordable prices.
Our correspondent, who also toured the exhibition ground, reported seeing various northern cultural items displayed in different sections, including fascinating artifacts tied to the history and origins of northern Nigeria.
