Eintracht Frankfurt will likely be without veteran defender Makoto Hasebe until next year for injury reasons, the Bundesliga club said on Friday.

Hasebe, 38, suffered a knee injury during their mid-week 3-2 defeat in the Champions League at Tottenham Hotspur and is unlikely to be fit again before the league pauses in mid-November for the World Cup in Qatar, not resuming until January.

“This has unfortunately worsened our personnel situation. Now other players must take over responsibilities,” coach Oliver Glasner said on Friday. “We have been improvising in defence for weeks. It is our job to find solutions.

Ansgar Knauff and Luca Pellegrini will also miss the next game on Saturday against Bayer Leverkusen while Almamy Touré and Jérôme Onguéné are healthy again but not yet an option.
